Meaning of Khangar – A Kshatriya Warrior Identity

The term Khangar represents a proud and historic Kshatriya warrior identity in India. It is derived from the Sanskrit roots “Khadga” (sword) and “Dhara” (holder), meaning “the bearer of the sword”—a direct symbol of courage, warfare, and Kshatriya duty.

Khangars are Kshatriyas, known for their bravery, discipline, and mastery in warfare. They were highly skilled in sword fighting, and their name itself became synonymous with valor and battlefield excellence.

Historically, Khangar Kshatriyas held authority in Bundelkhand, where they ruled strongholds such as Garhkundar Fort, an important center of power and defense. This reflects their established role as rulers, warriors, and protectors of their land.

The reputation of Khangar warriors was so strong that many rulers and noble families named their children “Khangar” to symbolize strength, honor, and royal pride. The name itself became a mark of warrior excellence and respect.

Today, Khangar is not just a name
it is a living symbol of Kshatriya heritage that is deeply rooted in the history of Bundelkhand and the broader warrior traditions of India.
